”A Tri-Fold Wallet Made from “Cordovan” — The Diamond of Leathers”
Cordovan, often referred to as the "diamond of leathers" due to its rarity and beauty, is a highly coveted luxury leather known for its exceptional durability—said to be up to three times stronger than cowhide. Derived from the hindquarters of a horse, only a thin 1–2mm layer known as the cordovan shell is extracted, and its presence or quality cannot be determined until the surface is carefully shaved down—making the process as uncertain and intricate as gemstone mining. This unique method is what earns cordovan its nickname, "the jewel of leather." This special tri-fold wallet features this rare and luxurious leather on the exterior, while the interior is lined with Tochigi leather, another premium Japanese leather. A truly exceptional piece crafted from two of the finest materials available.

“The Best of Both Worlds: Cordovan and Cowhide”
Cordovan is an exceptionally rare leather, not only due to its limited and unstable supply of raw material, but also because of the long production time, the need for specialized and costly equipment, and the significant risks involved in its manufacturing. Despite these challenges, we have managed to continue offering this prized material for years—though it remains so rare that production could cease at any time. To complement this rarity, we’ve paired cordovan with Tochigi leather on the interior—the part that comes in contact with your hands—effectively compensating for cordovan’s weaknesses such as sensitivity to water, sweat, and scratches. The result is a thoughtfully designed wallet that combines the best qualities of both leathers.
The wallet features five card slots, a bill compartment without dividers, and a gusseted coin pocket. Its straightforward design ensures both practicality and ease of use.
The brand logo is subtly embossed for an understated look.
Cordovan is said to be a layer developed by horses in the wild to protect themselves from predators. It’s believed that wild zebras, for example, have this cordovan layer not only on their hindquarters but extending up toward their shoulders. In contrast, domesticated horses and thoroughbreds, which are not exposed to such threats, often have little to no cordovan layer. Cordovan leather is admired for its unique, mirror-like deep luster and its smooth, supple texture—features that develop even more character with age.
NOTES
|
Although cordovan is extremely durable, its fine-grained surface makes scratches more noticeable, so please handle it with care. Additionally, it is sensitive to moisture—exposure to rain or sweat may cause discoloration or deterioration. We recommend carrying it inside a bag to help protect it.
