Chinos are a cornerstone of Americana, with roots stretching back to the 19th-century military uniforms of Britain and France. The name "Chino" is said to have originated during WWI when US troops stationed in the Philippines sourced durable twill fabric from China for their uniforms.
Known for their rugged construction, chinos evolved from essential military workwear into an indispensable staple of the modern casual wardrobe. We’ve stayed true to these functional roots by utilizing classic T/C (Polyester/Cotton) workwear fabric. To confront the intense heat of high summer, we’ve reimagined the classic short with a modern wide silhouette. To complete the design, we’ve adorned each pair with an original BARNS patch, adding a touch of artisanal character to this seasonal essential.

"The Tech-Infused Wide Short"

We’ve reimagined the classic, flat-front chino—designed for effortless casual wear—into a contemporary wide-silhouette short. While the look remains rooted in heritage, the fabric is a modern marvel: a mid-weight T/C blend featuring LYCRA® T400® fiber.
This advanced composite fiber provides exceptional stretch and recovery, ensuring the shorts maintain their shape even after heavy use. Lightweight and remarkably durable, this material offers an easy-care advantage over traditional 100% cotton chinos, remaining highly wrinkle-resistant and crisp. This standout piece features four original patches, generously placed to evoke the unique, soulful look of a hand-customized vintage find. 

We’ve integrated traditional slash pockets, a signature of classic trouser tailoring, into this design.

The back pockets feature a single-welt construction, a deliberate nod to the rugged, no-nonsense aesthetic of authentic workwear chinos. To further refine the fit, we’ve integrated precision darts just above the pockets.

Combining the best of both worlds, our T/C fabric—named after its blend of Tetoron (Polyester) and Cotton—is a masterclass in functional comfort. This hybrid material offers the soft, natural touch of cotton alongside the remarkable wrinkle-resistance of polyester. By finishing the fabric in a versatile mid-weight, we have created an "all-season" staple that transitions seamlessly through the changing months, providing a reliable and polished look no matter the weather.
