These machines, which have been in operation for around 100 years in Wakayama Prefecture, produce fabric slowly and with plenty of air, resulting in an exceptionally soft texture, perfect tension, and a comfortable, enveloping feel. Among these, the Tsuriami T-shirt series, a staple for the spring and summer seasons, stands as one of BARNS OUTFITTERS' signature items. Following last year’s release, a special Mickey Mouse item returns once again! This time, we've selected a rare Mickey Mouse design that was exclusively available at Disneyland, California, for just 16 days during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics—a true hidden gem. This unique design has been printed onto our signature loopwheel T-shirt, a must-have staple for the spring and summer seasons.

"A Rare, Legendary Design Known to True Collectors"

For decades, Mickey Mouse designs have adorned T-shirts, sweatshirts, chambray shirts, and countless other items. Among these, one of the most elusive vintage designs is the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Mickey Mouse print, which was available exclusively at Disneyland, California, for just 16 days. Now faithfully recreated, this rare design is printed on carefully selected white and gray body T-shirts to enhance its nostalgic appeal. Using a washout printing technique, the print achieves a beautifully worn-in look, even capturing the subtle texture of vintage fabric.

The neck is a binder neck, which is sewn across the body as seen in vintage models. This is a specification for excellent elasticity and durability, and to be used for many years.

By making the size regular, the characteristics of the hang-knit fabric can be felt to the maximum extent, achieving an eternal standard that is not affected by time.

The loop-wheel knitting(TSURIAMI) machine is a machine that knits fabric in a tubular shape. As a result, the fabric is seamlessly finished with no side seams, known as a "round body" design. This tubular body makes it difficult to adjust the size, so careful adjustments were made to the angle of the sleeve attachment, sleeve width, and the line that follows the body from the shoulder to the upper arm. By fine-tuning the sleeve width, a universally flattering silhouette was achieved, creating a well-proportioned fit that looks great even when worn as a single layer. While adopting vintage-inspired design elements, the garment features a timeless silhouette, making it easy to wear both tucked in or out.

Uneven yarns made from rice cotton are used, which have more fluff than ordinary yarns to retain a dry, crisp texture. The softness and rough texture are created by knitting the fabric slowly so that the yarn contains air.

"TSURIAMI"

The “loopwheel machine” was developed about 100 years ago in the Taisho era (1912-1926). The machine is suspended from a beam, and the weight of the knitted fabric accumulates under the machine. Also, because of the difficulty of maintenance and procurement of parts in case of breakdowns due to the old machines, they are very rare knitting machines that will eventually disappear. However, the unique softness and firmness of the knitted fabric, which is created by slowly adding air and minimizing stress on the fabric, is a characteristic of hang knitting that cannot be found anywhere else, and has been a staple at BARNS OUTFITTERS for many years.
