The city of Fussa in Tokyo, about 40 km from the center of the city, has a somewhat American atmosphere, partly due to the Yokota Air Base. NORTH WORKS is a workshop and atelier in a renovated U.S. military house, where they continue to create products with unchanging value based on basic designs. Each item is made by hand, so each piece has a slightly different face, which becomes the flavor of the item. The new collection for Fall/Winter 2025 features a special collaboration between BARNS OUTFITTERS and NORTH WORKS, highlighting the brand's iconic Smile motif. The Smile Collection was specially commissioned by BARNS OUTFITTERS and includes a series of accessories centered around the iconic smiling face. A C-type ring featuring distinctive stamp work encircling the iconic smile motif.

"Iconic Smile and Symbolic Stamp Work"

What if Native Americans had believed in a "smile" deity…? This imaginative concept inspired a design that features an iconic smile surrounded by symbolic stamp work—evoking a sense of spiritual reverence. The arrow motif, traditionally believed to serve as a talisman, is thought to ward off evil when worn as an accessory. A playful yet meaningful piece that blends storytelling with heritage craftsmanship.

The inside is stamped with the logos of both BARNS OUTFITTERS and NORTH WORKS. Each stamp is applied by hand, resulting in a one-of-a-kind finish unique to every piece.

The C-type ring—often referred to as a fork ring or open ring—features an open-ended design that allows for slight size adjustments, making it easy to fit a range of finger sizes. Its open shape also has a slimming effect on the finger, adding both functionality and subtle elegance to the piece.
