BIG MAC was born in the early 1920s as a private brand for a major American department store. At the time, their workwear—including denim and heavy-duty flannel shirts—earned immense support from workers for its superior functionality and durability.
Today, BIG MAC continues to evolve by reimagining its vast historical archives with modern silhouettes and premium materials. It has become a brand that feels nostalgic to those who grew up with original vintage pieces, yet fresh and exciting to the younger generation.
After a year-long wait since the 2025SS season, our popular Painter Pants are back with a fresh, seasonal update. This year’s version features a lightweight fabric perfectly suited for the spring and summer months. Most importantly, we’ve refined the details and texture even further, achieving a finish that sits even closer to an authentic vintage piece than last year's model.

"A Masterpiece of Authentic Vintage Restoration"

Often referred to as "Carpenter Pants," the Painter Pants are defined by their functional DNA: oversized back pockets, side tool pockets, a hammer loop, and a generous silhouette designed for ease of movement. Each detail was originally engineered for maximum efficiency on the job site.
For this season, BARNS OUTFITTERS has crafted a special version using a lightweight ounce fabric, perfect for the warmer months while preserving the authentic atmosphere of the original.
We’ve introduced key "minor updates" that make a major difference: switching to the iconic 42TALON zipper and refining the hammer pocket to a slightly smaller, more period-correct vintage size.

The 42TALON is a legendary zipper manufactured by the American company Talon. Widely used between the 1960s and 1980s, it featured a revolutionary "auto-lock" mechanism—by flipping the pull tab down, the zipper remained securely in place.
Due to its superior functionality and durability, it became the gold standard for jeans during that era, and today, it remains a key marker of value for vintage collectors.
For this collection, we have utilized a faithful reproduction of the original 42TALON, ensuring that even the hardware carries the authentic soul of the past.

The oversized back pockets are a canvas for our meticulous craftsmanship. Each pocket features authentic "atari" fading—reproducing the natural wear patterns found on vintage archives—and unique multi-colored stitching that subtly changes mid-seam.

To honor its roots as functional workwear, we have utilized triple-needle stitching on all high-stress areas.

This collaboration is defined by its meticulous attention to vintage signage. The front-left waist features a faithfully recreated brand tag from the 1960s, while the back-left waist is adorned with a flasher so authentic, it could easily be mistaken for a "deadstock" find.

We have prepared three distinct versions of this collaboration piece, each with its own character.
The Light Indigo features a realistic used finish for an authentic, aged look.
The One-Wash Indigo offers a classic start, perfect for those who want to enjoy the "aging process" as the fabric fades over time.
Finally, we have the Hickory Stripe, which has been treated with a vintage wash to soften its bold, industrial pattern for a more soulful, heritage feel.
