The city of Fussa in Tokyo, about 40 km from the center of the city, has a somewhat American atmosphere, partly due to the Yokota Air Base. NORTH WORKS is a workshop and atelier in a renovated U.S. military house, where they continue to create products with unchanging value based on basic designs. Each item is made by hand, so each piece has a slightly different face, which becomes the flavor of the item. The new collection for Fall/Winter 2025 features a special collaboration between BARNS OUTFITTERS and NORTH WORKS, highlighting the brand's iconic Smile motif. This ring features a playful yet symbolic design that imagines the iconic smile as the sun itself. Radiating warmth and positivity, the piece blends charm and meaning in a unique accessory that feels both uplifting and timeless.

What if Native Americans had believed in a "smile" deity…? This imaginative concept inspired a design that reinterprets the iconic smile as the sun, with radiating sunbursts extending outward like beams of light. In Native American culture, the sun is considered a powerful symbol of strength and healing. Among its many forms, the morning sun is believed to hold the greatest power, and it’s said that only good things come from the east—where the first light of day breaks. The design also features arrow motifs, traditionally seen as protective charms. When worn as jewelry, arrows are believed to ward off evil and offer spiritual protection to the wearer.

The inside is stamped with the logos of both BARNS OUTFITTERS and NORTH WORKS. Each stamp is applied by hand, resulting in a one-of-a-kind finish unique to every piece.
