It is said that during World War I, when the U.S. military was stationed in the Philippines, they sourced fabric from China for their uniforms, which led to the name “chino cloth.” Because of their durable construction, chinos were often worn as workwear, and today they have become an indispensable staple in casual fashion. At first glance, these chinos are a quintessential basic item — a no-tuck design that pairs effortlessly with any BARNS OUTFITTERS piece for casual wear. This season, we’ve added a hand-drawn-inspired print reminiscent of “Memorial Pants” to this classic style. Memorial Pants, like Memorial Jackets, are said to have originated in the 1940s. They were custom-decorated by friends and teachers as graduation mementos, making each piece unique. Drawing from American culture, this playful, hand-touch-inspired design evokes the spirit of that era while adding a fun, contemporary twist to a wardrobe staple.

Designed with trouser-style slash pockets, these chinos are finished with a thoroughly classic, no-frills look.

The thighs are cut with a relaxed, roomy fit, giving the look a strong nod to classic army chinos.

The back features single-welt pockets, staying true to the workwear-inspired chino tradition. Darts are added above the pockets to refine the silhouette and ensure a clean fit.
