This time, the collection highlights the famous scene from Steven Spielberg’s classic film E.T., the very image used in the movie’s poster, printed onto the brand’s iconic loopwheel T-shirt—an essential piece for the spring/summer seasons!

"A Design Everyone Has Seen at Least Once"

Released in 1982, E.T. tells the heartwarming story of the unforgettable extraterrestrial E.T. and his bond with a young boy named Elliott. Directed and produced by Steven Spielberg, with a screenplay by Melissa Mathison, the film became the highest-grossing movie of its time. For this collection, we’ve selected one of the film’s most iconic scenes—widely featured in advertisements and posters—and printed it onto BARNS OUTFITTERS’ signature loopwheel T-shirt. Using inkjet printing, the design is vividly detailed while blending seamlessly with the fabric, creating a vintage-inspired aesthetic that feels timeless.

The loop-wheel knitting(TSURIAMI) machine is a machine that knits fabric in a tubular shape. As a result, the fabric is seamlessly finished with no side seams, known as a "round body" design. This tubular body makes it difficult to adjust the size, so careful adjustments were made to the angle of the sleeve attachment, sleeve width, and the line that follows the body from the shoulder to the upper arm. By fine-tuning the sleeve width, a universally flattering silhouette was achieved, creating a well-proportioned fit that looks great even when worn as a single layer. While adopting vintage-inspired design elements, the garment features a timeless silhouette, making it easy to wear both tucked in or out.

Uneven yarns made from rice cotton are used, which have more fluff than ordinary yarns to retain a dry, crisp texture. The softness and rough texture are created by knitting the fabric slowly so that the yarn contains air.

"TSURIAMI"

The “loopwheel machine” was developed about 100 years ago in the Taisho era (1912-1926). The machine is suspended from a beam, and the weight of the knitted fabric accumulates under the machine. Also, because of the difficulty of maintenance and procurement of parts in case of breakdowns due to the old machines, they are very rare knitting machines that will eventually disappear. However, the unique softness and firmness of the knitted fabric, which is created by slowly adding air and minimizing stress on the fabric, is a characteristic of hang knitting that cannot be found anywhere else, and has been a staple at BARNS OUTFITTERS for many years.
