The fabric is knitted slowly and carefully with air on a nearly 100-year-old "hanging knitting machine" still in existence in Wakayama Prefecture, and its greatest feature is its exquisite tension and body-hugging comfort.




「Our loopwheel knitting method」
 We utilize a traditional falling loopwheel knitting system where fabric is suspended in the air and knitted using its own weight as a counterbalance. This method can only knit one meter of fabric per hour, but produces a very fine and high quality knit. Due to low production capacity, there are only a few hundred of these machines in operation today. This method, while painstaking, is an integral part of creating unique fabric expressions in our signature BARNS knits.

Uneven yarns made from rice cotton are used to retain a dry texture, with more fuzz (fluffiness) than standard yarns.



The yarns are used to slowly knit the fabric so that it contains air, resulting in softness and a rough texture.

The binder neck is sewn between the body and the neck ribs, which is also seen in vintage items. This is one of the innovations for excellent elasticity and durability, and to be used for many years.

A hang knitting machine is a machine that knits fabric in a tubular shape. Therefore, the fabric is made without any joints on the sides, called "Marudo", and is used as it is. The body is finished in a tubular shape, making it difficult to adjust the size of the garment.

We adjusted the line to follow the body from the shoulder to the second arm, and fine-tuned the width of the sleeves. The result is a universal silhouette with good sizing that looks great as a single piece of clothing. While adopting a vintage-like design, it has become a piece that is easy to wear both in and out because of its universal and modern silhouette.
